It was 10 years ago that the late Richard Burns claimed the world title at the wheel of a Subaru Impreza WRC. In memory of the British driver who died of cancer in 2005, a ‘Paint It Orange’ campaign has been launched in a bid to collect funds to help fight this terrible disease.
World Champions Sébastien Loeb and Sébastien Vettel, as well as other personalities from the world of motorsport have all donned orange tee-shirts in order to promote the campaign.
Richard Burns made his world debut on the 1990 RAC Rally driving a Peugeot 309 GTi (28th overall). He went on to win his home WRC round three times in a row in 1998, 1999 and 2000. He fell ill just days before the 2003 Wales RallyGB and was unable to defend his chances that year with the factory Peugeot team (206 WRC).
